The need for renewable fuel sources has sparked a global search for biomass fuel that is viable and economical, yet is able to provide the required calorific value close to that of coal. In its pressed form, EFB has a calorific value of between 1,200 – 1,800 kcal/kg while shredded EFB has a calorific value of between 1,500 – 2,000 kcal/kg.
Greenheart was part of the fuel delivery chain for the delivery of EFB as a fuel source from Malaysia to India, whereby we had provided the service of sourcing, delivery, storage and shipping of the material. A total of 3,500 tons of pressed EFB together with 120 tons of shredded EFB was delivered from Port Klang to Port Karaikal (near Chennai), whereby the EFB will be used directly as fuel in a biomass plant.
The plan for the near future is to carry out the delivery of 60,000 tons of EFB per month, as part of a supplementary fuel source for 6 more new biomass plants in India, and Greenheart is set to play an important role in the sourcing and delivery of the material.
